 Hiking the Pitons

5 Hours

Overview

This is the challenging climb up Gros Piton. A certified local guide leads you from the base. The trail is steep, rocky, and often muddy. You pull yourself up using tree roots as handholds. Views open wider with every switchback. Near the top, you crawl over boulders. At the summit, you stand above clouds looking down at Petit Piton and the Caribbean Sea. The descent is harder on your knees than the climb up.

Total time is three to five hours round trip. Bring two liters of water, a snack, and proper hiking shoes. No sandals. No beginners. This is a serious hike for fit people who want a genuine physical challenge.
